This collection of soundscapes were commissioned for the Busan Biennale 2020 entitled Words at an Exhibition《열 장의 이야기와 다섯 편의 시》an exhibition in ten chapters and five poems.

The eleven musicians ODÆRI, SAY SUE ME, KIM Ildu, CHOI Taehyun, Elias Bender RØNNENFELT, J-TONG and JINJAH, Søren KJÆRGAARD, Astrid SONNE, 食品まつり a.k.a FOODMAN, MEUKO! MEUKO! and Kim GORDON featured on this record have responded to the ten short stories and five poems written by BAE Suah, BAK Solmay, KIM Hyesoon, KIM Keum Hee, KIM Soom, KIM Un-su, PYUN Hye-young, Mark von SCHLEGELL, Amalie SMITH, Andrés Felipe SOLANO and YI SangWoo.

The title "Words at an Exhibition 《열 장의 이야기와 다섯 편의 시》 an exhibition in ten chapters and five poems" is derived from the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s (1839–1881) piano composition, Pictures at an Exhibition (1874) which is a sonic interpretation of ten artworks made by his friend Viktor Hartmann (1834–1873). Mussorgsky transformed Hartmann’s two-dimensional works into another medium, sound. By borrowing this approach of interpreting and translating the Busan Biennale
2020 attempts to transform the city into short stories and poems and into artworks and sound. Through short stories, poems, sounds, and visual arts, the Busan Biennale 2020 offers the visitor a chance to explore the history and the urban landscape of Busan through its fictional layers.

I would like to express my most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to
the musicians, authors, and visual artists, who all believed
in this idea and produced elegant and mind-blowing works

사운드 스케이프를 수록한 이 레코드는 2020부산비엔날레
《열 장의 이야기와 다섯 편의 시》를 위해 제작되었다. 11명의
음악가인 오대리, 세이수미, 김일두, 최태현, 엘리아스 벤더
로넨펠트, 제이통과 진자, 쇠렌 키에르가르드, 아스트리드 존
느, 푸드맨, 무코! 무코!, 킴 고든은 배수아, 박솔뫼, 김혜순, 김
금희, 김숨, 김언수, 편혜영, 마크 본 슐레겔, 아말리에 스미스,
안드레스 솔라노, 이상우가 작성한 열 장의 이야기와 다섯 편
의 시에 응답하여 사운드를 제작했다. 전시의 제목 《열 장의
이야기와 다섯 편의 시》는 러시아 작곡가 모데스트 무소르그
스키18391881의 피아노 모음곡 ‘전람회의 그림’1874에서
파생되었다. 이는 무소르그스키의 친구이자 건축 예술가인
빅토르 하르트만이 제작한 열 점의 작품에 대한 음역적 해석
이다. 무소르그스키는 2차원의 작업물인 하르트만의 예술적
표현을 다른 매체, 즉 사운드로 변형했던 것이다. 이와 같은
접근법을 빌려 온 2020부산비엔날레는 도시를 짧은 이야기
와 시로, 사운드와 예술 작품으로 변형하려 한다. 이야기, 시,
사운드, 예술 작품으로 구성되는 이번 비엔날레에서 관람객
들은 다양한 픽션의 층을 통해 부산의 역사와 도시 풍경을 탐
험할 수 있을 것이다. 이 레코드와 전시를 위해 우아하고도 감
동적인 작품을 제작해준 음악가들, 저자들, 그리고 시각예술
가들에게 진심 어린 감사를 표한다.
